72 hours in Krakow Poland – Day 4 (Leaving Day)
Day 4 (Leaving day)
We checked out from our hotel.
Bought a couple of donuts from a supermarket around the corner (3zł, £0.55 each).
By the way, also near Premium Hostel there is a small bakery called Cukiernia Krolewska which you simply must go to if you are in the area. Delicious pastries we had were both 3.5zł each and people were super kind and helpful.
We had espresso at Tektura in the Old Town (10zł, £1.80). Nice cafe, coffee was tasty but slightly towards the sour side.
We then sat in the market square and ate our donuts, walked down Grodzka street,
then visited Wawel Royal Castle.
You can go up the hill and freely enter and explore the courtyard, but you need to purchase a ticket if you want to see the exhibitions. Sometimes they offer a free ticket on a particular day, so have a look on their website before you go.
When we went to Plac Nowy in Jewish quarter yesterday in the early evening, it looked interesting but rather quiet. Somehow I convinced myself that it will be more lively at lunch time. With the vision to try out different street foods before leaving Krakow, we took a tram and headed to the Jewish quarter. But alas, the square was even more quiet and it was around 12:30.
With only a few options available, I didn’t fancy anything. C tried a soup with sausage which came with massive bread (9zł, £1.65) at a place called Bar Pod Okraglakiem.
C enjoyed the soup and the girl at the counter was really helpful. They seemed busy with many locals coming and going to get their lunch which is always a good sign.
We had one food mission left before heading to the airport, which was to sample some ice cream at Good Lood. Good Lood is a chain store and can be found in many locations in Krakow and also in Warsaw. We found out that there was one just opposite 252 bus stop towards the airport and went to that one. We took a tram #6, got off at Muzeum Narodowe and walked to the ice cream shop.
The ice creams were lovely. We both went for 2 scoops (10zł, £1.80). C had pear and chocolate and I had lychee and peanut butter+cherry. Everything tasted fresh and the portions were huge! The girl at the counter was really friendly and kind.
The only thing was that this branch is just a stand and there is no toilet facility or places to sit.
We crossed the road and there was a bench next to the bus stop. We sat there with our ice creams. There was a park behind us and it actually was quite a nice spot to enjoy the ice creams whilst keeping an eye on the airport bus. I believe this Good Lood branch is called ‘Błonia’ and the bus stop is ‘Cracovia Błonia’. From this stop we reached Krakow airport in about 35 minutes.
At the gate, Ryanair operated on a 2 step boarding check. The first person checked our UK passenger locator forms, we moved on in the queue and the next person scanned our tickets and checked our passports.
After a 2 hour journey, we were back in London Stansted airport. By the way, if you are flying with Ryanair and taking a coach to London from the airport, I highly recommend purchasing a coach ticket with Ryanair especially for the returning (to London) journey. This ticket is flexible and really helpful in case of any flight delays.
I hope you enjoyed my 4 part 72 hours in Krakow blogs. C and I both really enjoyed our time in this Polish city. Krakow to us, was a relaxing, comfortable and inviting city, food was good and most importantly, people have been so kind everywhere we went. Thank you Krakow, we will be back!
